Hi Stephan,

  [Sorry for taking so long to get back to this issue].

  I was unaware of ld.so's support for those special variables...

  Please could you try out the uploaded patch which I hope will fix the
problem.
  (If you have trouble applying the parts of the patch which affect the
configure files feel free to leave it out.  All it will do is possibly break
the support for the $PLATFORM variable, which I do not think you are using).
