Okay, it applied and compiled fine, but I've already found a bug:  if
the executable can find the tag in val-tags, it won't provide an error
when the specified tag doesn't exist in a file.  In the above case, it
seems to be assuming the requested file is empty.  This seems to happen
regardless of whether a magic tag is specified.

When I attempt to apply '.origin' to a static tag I am told there is no
such tag.  It would be nice if the error message was more descriptive.
e.g. "magic tag '.origin' cannot be applied to static tag, 'statictag'".

Anyone want to argue the behavior of .trunk.origin?  I don't really like
the current behavior and I don't think I'd care to maintain it.  Even a
changing base is rather useless.  Maybe it could refer to the vendor
branch (base of?  tip of?), but I'm not sure what else would be useful.
I think I'd rather have this usage be invalid than the current dynamic
behavior (which, I might add, can be duplicated using -r1.1 with most
repositories).
