I converted one of the files to non-binary mode and it seems
to work correctly!
I'll follow suit with the rest of the files.  Perhaps followed by a
dos2unix and commit.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions; I really appreciate it.

On a side note, is there a list of the features 1.12.x offers or plans to
offer over 1.11.x?  I can't seem to find it on the website.
