Well, as we've seen in the past, several people interested enough to ask for and use a feature doesn't usually mean several people interested enough to generate usable patches in response to problem reports and maintain features over years and multiple releases.
I'm also the one who seems to be getting the CVE's (Critical Vulnerability something-or-other reports) before everyone else at the moment. If I know there are people I can forward those problems to and get patches back my response will be much less likely to be removing the code from CVS entirely. :)
