I think this is the best approach. Otherwise, to be complete, there should
be a set of tests for restricted file names on each platform that CVS is run
on. That would get very hairy. And, what do you do when the client is on one
platform and the server is on another? The tests would get very complex,
very quickly.

Besides, taking Derek's approach allows us to paraphrase the old joke:
"Doctor, it hurts when I use characters in my file names, that Windows
doesn't like..."
