Hmmm... 8 to 16 Kbytes (RCS_BUFSIZE or MAX_BUF_SIZE) seems unlikely to
cause a regression with most current users.

Sure, but I suggest the limit on stable may wish to be higher. The point
is that they are living with the problem now and it is not doing the
wrong thing unless they run out of virtual memory... or at least that
may be a reasonable assumption give we have only had the one problem
reported.
