Hey all,
I just read the docs, and not only will the new automake
1.9.2 automatically distribute local m4 files included by aclocal
1.9.2, but aclocal 1.9.2 only creates m4_include() lines in aclocal
rather than copying the contents of the macro files, which should drop
the aclocal.m4 file we distribute down from half a megabyte to 85
lines, give or take.
Okay, I just ran a test with the new Automake & Autoconf 2.59 and got
results almost as good as I was expecting. The aclocal file size
dropped by about a factor of 10:
[oberon@courage ccvs-work]$ ls -l aclocal.m4
- -rw-rw-r-- 1 oberon oberon 44622 Oct 7 15:52 aclocal.m4
[oberon@courage ccvs-work]$ ls -l ../ccvs-old/aclocal.m4
- -rw-r--r-- 1 oberon oberon 438473 Oct 7 02:26 ../ccvs-old/aclocal.m4
and I can eliminate the m4/Makefile* files since the m4 sources now
automatically get included in the toplevel Makefile.in.
Anyhow, I would like to update and restandardize CVS to use Autoconf
2.59 & Automake 1.9.2, if there are no objections.
Cheers,
Derek
