That would be a feature. The reason I made the request in the first place, 
is encountering users (myself included) adding a file with the wrong 
permissions. So if I can remove the mistaken execute bit from a .c file,
I would want it to stay that way even when I checkout older revisions of it.

(keeping the state of the execute bit). Then, if the user re-adds the 
file, even with the execute bit corrected, the attic file's execute bit 
will prevail. You have to bother the repository maintaner to fix the 
wrong permission for you. In any case, if a user has a right to set the 
execute bit during the initial addition of a file anyway, they should 
be able to change that bit later on.
