cvs update on large binary file causes server reboot

I'm using X86 Gentoo Linux with a gentoo linux kernel 2.6.10. CVS1.11.19 is installed from sources.

I commited in an approx. 14Mb Microsoft word doc as a binary file, whichwent just fine.But when I go to update the file in other cvs working directories, itdoes not update and the server where cvs resides completely shuts downand boots up again.

Has anyone seen behaviour like this with large binary files?
