Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password

Hello, 
 
I've recently installed CVS 1.10.9 on my Windows desktop but cannot make
a connection to the repository which is resident on another server.  The
error message I receive is as follows:
 
 
 
Empty password used - try 'cvs login' with a real password
cvs [checkout aborted]: authorization failed: server LNICVS01 rejected
access to /support/CVS/test for user tcampbell
 
 
 
My "old" PC, running an older version of CVS, did not have this problem
(I did not install this version).
 
I've "googled" the error but haven't seen any resolution which applies -
does anyone have any suggestions please?
