In the latest ls that comes with RedHat 7.1 the sort order for ls -A is changed to effectively ignore the initial "." for names that starts with ".". For me this is rather annoying and moreover it broke one my script which assumed that all dot names would come in one chunk from ls. Is there any way to restore the old sorting order without recompiling ls? IMHO if you want to change this, that should not be turn on by default but rather with a special sort option like --gnu-sorting-order.

Regards, Igor
