It is not my intent to start an editor war here, but within vim, you can
easily swap the syntax high-lighting between languages.

It is not my intent to start an editor war here, but Emacs has
mmm-mode, which allows to have fragments of one language/syntax be
embedded in another, and have both highlighted at the same time as
appropriate for each one.

Editor-support or not, I find the self-contained AWK scripts to be prettier and less
fiddly than the ones wrapped in bash.

PS: I use Emacs with evil-mode (vim emulation) and regularly switch between the two,
so you don't have to worry about starting an editor war, I'm neutral.
