Agreed, and that's why I proposed that `make distcheck' should ensure
that targets are always at least one second newer than their sources.
(Not that I'm volunteering to implement it.  :-)

Yes, I think so.

Sure, but the problem here is something different: it's that getdate.y
is relying on GNU extensions.  Even if someone has a working yacc, it
might not work with getdate.y.  Removing getdate.y's GNU extensions
would be unpalatable for some distributions, as it would cause
getdate.c to become non-reentrant.

Sorry, no.  I doubt it's because of the `ls', though.
