Isn't it time to disable either -Werror or -Wattribute?

I've found -Wattribute and -Werror to be useful with recent GCC. However, the cost of pacifying older GCC's warnings typically exceeds the benefit.

One possibility is to modify Gnulib to disable -Wattribute in GCC 7 and earlier. Another possibility, which I think I might prefer mildly, is just to ask people to use the latest version of GCC if they want to enable GCC warnings.
