    But I think that a main of about a hundred lines is not a good example
    for beginners. 

I agree.

    the "mail" option must be separated in more functions. 

My plan is to delete the mail option.  It has no business being in
a hello,world program.

    I am not a very good programmer, so I think you have had a good
    explication to do it as it is. 

There is no good explanation that I know of.  I suspect the programmers
who originally created hello did so late at night, and threw in a bunch
of jokes, including that mail "reader".

Since I think the package can actually serve a useful purpose, and
nobody was actively working on it, I asked to become the maintainer a
few weeks ago.

    I can make the modifications I said.

Thank you for the offer, but there's no need.  I need to revamp the
thing from the ground up.

I don't know when I'll be able to make another release, but I'll look
forward to your comments whenever it happens.
