I'm not sure you're really asking about the C details, but if you are,
the answer is something like

  #define COMPARE(type) \
  int \
  ps_cmp_##type(type a, type b) { ... }

Note that there must be no space between COMPARE and (, and that you
need the token concatenation operator ##.
