Hi,

I just recently installed GNU/Hurd off the Debian ISO. I'm using a
D-Link DFE-530TX+ NIC, which was not being recognized during the Mach
startup. I got some help from some folks on the #hurd irc channel, a few
of which had been successfully running rtl8139 based NIC's. Finally
after playing around and following advice with no luck, I decided to
recompile gnumach.
After rebuilding, My card was still not being
recognized, so I decided to look into the rtl8139.c driver module to see
if I could figure out the problem. I discovered the code wasn't written
to recognize the Vendor ID and Card ID of the DFE-538. So I looked at
the 8139too.c Linux Module and hacked the rtl8139.c code to recognize my
card. Everything is working just fine with My NIC now.
Now I'd like to know how, where or to whom I can submit this patch?

I'd also like to mention that there are quite a few rtl8139
based cards in the 2.4 8139too.c module that will not be recognized by
the 2.0 rtl8139.c. The fix I applied should also work to add support for
these cards, and I'd be happy to help anyone who wants to add this
support.

I've been told that the next Major release of gnumach (2.x?)
will be using all the OSKit hardware Drivers, and that I shouldn't waste
too much time hacking the current Linux 2.0 based drivers. This was just
a quick two minute fix, which just basically will support more hardware.

Thanks for your Help

Anthony
