I don't think this changes security properties in any way. A process
that can do such system tracing must be absolutely trusted anyways, RO
or RW all the same.

Maybe you actually mean that RW increases the risk of crashing?...
(Well, what fun would there be in system development, without the
prospect of regular crashes? ;-) )

I haven't yet formed an opinion on the other points.
