I would agree if the features were in some stable release of glibc, 
while they are just in glibc's master since few hours.
I'm not sure it is worth making hurd not compile even with the latest 
stable glibc just for something which is not critical, after all. I 
don't want to make contributions a bit more complicated.

Well, there are two cases only (at least for this flag): glibc >= 2.18 
(not released yet) which has it, and glibc < 2.18 which doesn't.
