It looks like your system, or at least your libtool is somewhat hosed.

What version of libtool are you using?
What is in ltdl.lo?  What does `file ltdl.lo' say? Is it a text file? What
version of libtool created it?
Does config.log belie any failures?
What host system are you getting this failure on?
Do you have a recipe for reproducing the bug reliably?
If you are not using the latest release of libtool, is your problem still
there if you upgrade? What about CVS libtool?
