Agreed on all counts.

Yes, we should fix that before the release.  I'm not even sure whether
we even have a pending patch for this.

Would be an idea, too.  Patch welcome in any case.  ;-)

I hope to be done with my round of Autoconf testing very soon; I plan to
then start working on Libtool backlog, piling high :-(
