Would it be semantically correct for libtool to make use of any of
  gcc -print-multi-lib
  gcc -print-multi-directory
  gcc -print-multi-os-directory

?  If yes: which, and for which paths?  It seems of those, only the last
is understood by gcc 3.3; I have not tested earlier versions.
