Comments? Suggestions for improvement?

Hi Kate,
I'm hoping to have a chance to look at this again at the weekend, however, as Ralf sent me off to read autoconf's limitations of the usual tools, I amsending you off there too :(

<http://www.gnu.org/software/autoconf/manual/ autoconf.html#Limitations-of-Usual-Tools>, specifically -v doesn't work, split takes only 2 arguments. You also need to call the compiler with the CFLAGS CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS because I get different results with gcc -m32 -print-multi-os-directory and gcc-m64 -print- multi-os-directory, as you would expect.

I do, however, agree that -print-search-dirs combined with -print- multi-os-directory seems to be the way to go. If you do not get around to it, I'll try to come up with a patch this weekend.

Thanks,
Peter
