Yeah, looks like a missed optimization that can be done if
--disable-shared.  How did you configure, what's
  ./libtool --features
  ./libtool --config

This is configure.ac:
# We don't need static libraries, speed the compilation up.
AC_ENABLE_SHARED([no])
AC_PROG_LIBTOOL

And the output you demanded is at the end of the message.


I think we can't really test ldconfig at configure time because it may
be accessible to root only (and thus only available at make install
time).  I'm not sure whether we can take cross-compilation as a reason
for not running it though.

But this is OSX: there is no such thing as ldconfig.  It's OSX cross-compiling
to mipsel-linux.


Yeah, installing convenience archives is not so clean.  But people do
uglier things all the time...

I need to build a single large library from several smaller.  If I can
do that, I guess I don't need convenience libraries.
