[libtool 2.1a] testsuite: 25 49 failed |

Hello,
I installed libtool 2.1a from CVS tonight and installed it. The self-
test failed two tests. The log reports most of the configuration
information.
Additional information: The system is a Dell with 4 Xeon dual-core
3GHz processors, running Fedora Core 5 with all of the latest
updates. Since I was having problems trying to install software that
did not recognize this system, I installed the latest released
versions of Autoconf and Automake yesterday, which I believe are
Autoconf 2.61 and Automake 1.9.6, as well as a snapshot of libtools
2.1a (not the CVS version). I still ran into problems, so I got the
CVS version.
As far as these failures are concerned, if you need any further
information I will happily provide it. I have been in this business
for a very long time (starting on an IBM 7094 when I was a graduate
student), and remember all too well the days when getting a Fortran
program to compile on more than two systems was a major effort. The
work you people are doing to automate the distribution of entire
packages across an incredible range of systems is extremely valuable
and technically very challenging, and I REALLY APPRECIATE it.
Best regards,
Lynn Ten Eyck
P.S. The problems I ran into with other versions had to do with the
existence of /usr/lib64 and /usr/lib in the same file system . . .
libtool 1.5.22 kept picking up a shared library from both
directories, and the linker objected to mixing 64- and 32-bit address
spaces. I will post a bit more on the libtool list in case there is
an easy fix to be had. I can't believe I am the first to run into
this . . .
