The log you sent indicates that ImageMagick built and linked the included
libltdlc.la, which in turn was missing argz.o which would have satisfied the
symbols that were flagged unresolved.
Yes, I realized this after my email posting, but the question to be
resolved is why. I am not able to reproduce the issue here under OS-X
Leopard with the PATH set to default and non-existing prefix.
Libtool developers are the last people who should be testing anything
related to autotools since our systems are already nicely fortified
with perfect software.
