That's weird; I assume this is related to the test failure you reported
on bug-autoconf.
 
Can you please post the output of
  make check-local TESTSUITEFLAGS='-v -d -x 26'
  cd tests/testsuite.dir/26
  ../../../libtool --debug --mode=compile gcc -g -O2 -no-suppress -c a.c
