Thanks for the feedback.  Do you have Automake installed, and if yes,
which version?

It looks as if it's either not installed (in which case we should make
the failing tests not fail if it is not present), or it is very old (in
which case we should detect that oldness).

Regardless, your test failures should go once you install a recent
Automake (1.11 is current, but 1.10 should do just as well).
