That's what the 72-hour rule was for :)

If you're worried that these patches are so destabilizing that they might hold 
back a 2.2.12 release in a month or two, then feel free to make a branch-2-2 
for future 2.2.x releases into which we can cherry pick the stable patches from 
master.

I'd really like to be in a position to release a 2.2.12 with all of the loose 
windows issues tied up nicely, or at least with Peter's msvc-support branch 
merged in.
