1.5.7 compilation

I compiled 1.5.7 with two different machines (both RH 7.1, GUILE 1.3.4, kern 
2.4.2 & 2.4.6).

Both 'make all' and 'make install' gave the following error message.

First I thought that this was a serious problem and I keeped my
working 1.5.6 version at home. At work, I recently compiled and notised
same messages -- this time I compiled also 'make install' and found the
compiled versions in path.
