It's a feature, that is to say, LilyPond has always done this, and
it's the preferred way, afaik.  To put it differently, we don't have
the feature of using a fixed slope for tremolo beams.

Note that

  * Lily doesn't differentiate between measured and unmeasured
    tremolos, or to put that differently, Lily doesn't know about
    unmeasured tremolos, but you can misuse a 32th measured tremolos
    for that, and

  * In some modern editions, unmeasured tremolos are indicated using a
    fixed slope for the tremolo beams, probably to make sure the
    tremolo is really unmeasured.  I'm not too fond of the looks of
    it, but that's not the point.  Maybe this is the feature you want?

It could also be a guitar/drum convention/thing?
