lilypond-2.4.2 - Error invoking `dvips -t "a4" -u+ec-mftrace.map -u+lilypond.map ...

I am a newbie with linux and installed lilypond 2.4.2 (wow, I already 
learnt a lot) - now, when testing with a file named testly1.ly, I get: 
 
# lilypond testly1.ly     
GNU LilyPond 2.4.2     
Processing `testly1.ly'     
Parsing...     
Interpreting music... [1]     
Preprocessing graphical objects...     
Calculating line breaks... [2]     
Layout output to `testly1.tex'...     
Converting to `testly1.dvi'...

Error invoking `dvips  -t "a4"   -u+ec-mftrace.map -u+lilypond.map -Ppdf    

testly1 > /dev/null 2>&1 '. Return value 256     
Converting to `testly1.pdf'...Error invoking `ps2pdf  -sPAPERSIZE="a4"     
testly1.ps > /dev/null 2>&1 '. Return value 256     
     
When I list the files, I  get  
testly1.log  testly1.pdf  testly1.dvi testly1.ly   testly1.tex 
but no 
testly1.ps 
 
And I do have the Ghostscript installed (when checking which programme 
would be necessary to ps2pdf, it said: Ghostscript) 
 
hmm, I don't understand what is needs to be working!
