Interestingly, I no longer get this.  Since the earlier report, I put
lilypond.sh in my path and adjusted the APPLICATION path, but
I don't see why that would matter.

Regardless of whatever is happening on my system, the braces
are missing from the online docs, so clearly something is dodgy
there as well.
