If I want to see my changes, I need to close the Preview window and either re-open it by hand or ask Lilypond to compile once again.
One could in principle close the PDF files using AppleScript commands, but I do not know how to do it, or if Preview supports it.
Preview is a standard MacOS app made by Apple themselves, so it would be *very* strange if it didn't support it. I'd be glad to look into this as a sponsored feature.
