perhaps i'm doin something wrong.

as i progress thru the tutorial, only a few steps seem to work.   most of the 
time though i get an error message that says "error:  file test.log.ly' does 
not exist.  do you want to creat a new file?   when i click yes, i get another 
error msg that says "the system cannot find the file specified".  when i click 
no, nothing happens.  i have uninstalled the program and re-installed it.  i am 
typing "test.ly" in the save field.   i'm not adding log and i don't know how 2 
prevent it from being automaticlly added.  like i said...some things will work 
but most will not.  the one thing that i have noticed is that when i enter 
something like {a b c d}, etc, it will work fine.   but whenever i use the "\" 
followed by a key word, it gets rejected.  what am i doing wrong?  thx
