A small, additional observation:

With 2.11.11 (the last version that doesn't flip around syllables in 
this case),
lyric extenders are sometimes (but not always) shorter than they should 
be, and also
shorter than with e.g. 2.9.27.  So *something* changed already prior to 2.11.11.

The attached PNG made with 2.11.11 (and a real-life file) shows this 
(i.e. lyrics OK,
but lyric extenders cut short).
