Sorry, I appear to be the guilty party here.

This seems to have slipped through the net when I applied a fix for a
patch which sorted out leger lines on exotic staves; since there's no
regression test which removes the staff symbol and has notes with ties
or dots, my bad coding wasn't flagged up (it's a null pointer
problem).

I'm working on a fix for it at the moment. :)
