GrandStaff is used deliberately here to avoid the bar lines extending between
the two staves, potentially crossing lyric syllables - except that I've just
discovered the bar lines _do_ extend between the two staves, even when
GrandStaff is used! That needs more investigation.
Your other two points are valid, however.
