GNU make 3.79.1 is shipped as part of Solaris 8.  You can get it as
part of the SFWgmake package, which it installs GNU make into
/opt/sfw/bin/gmake.  SFWgmake is on the Companion CD; see
<http://www.sun.com/solaris/freeware/download.html>.  So you needn't
install a binary built elsewhere, or build it from sources; Sun has
already done it for you.
