Why? It's can be nice to know which compiler was used to build gnumake.exe, release/debug and on which date etc. (I build gnumake with both MSVC and MingW). And an icon is nice too so one can see GNU-make in running in e.g. Task Manager or Process Explorer. An icon requires an .rc file.

IMHO all programs with some self-respect should have a .rc/.ico
file. No problem with falling out of sync if NMakefile.template can
create the gnumake.rc itself.
