Follow-up Comment #1:

Hi.  I can't find any version of file.c, since the beginning of history, which
had a function print_target_props() in it.  Similarly, the very first commit
of mine where I changed update_status to be an enum (4b81f5ca92) already had
appropriate switch statements in the file.c:print_file() method.

I'm not sure what code you're looking at, but it's not official GNU make
code...?
