Could be either or both of us. Either way, Miss Understanding
came along and interfered. Anyhow, the "makeinfo --html"
handles @multitable much better and it does correctly
honor all the @ifxxx stuff, but it does not produce a table
of contents and it won't split by chapter. I guess until it
has a little more work done, I'll stick to texi2html and
post-process the result. Thank you. Sorry for the trouble.
