    Bold face was the main advantage of @def*.  

The main feature of @def* in my mind is all the argument parsing and
labeling of the block.

    Now it looks like a plain @table (with better indentation).

The indentation of defuns and table items is basically the same isn't it?

Maybe you want @table @b :).
