Really?  Then what's that makeinfo/tests/ subdirectory we get with
every distro?

The only thing that's missing there (apart of more tests) is the
machinery that would cause "make check" to fail and yell bloody murder
when one of the tests produces results that are not the expected ones.
That requires that Someone (tm) adds a file or files for each test
with the results we want to get when that test is run.
