And I second what Karl said.

The problem is it is not really clear how to do that: makeinfo needs
to produce an output that will do what you want in the various
supported formats, and each format has its own weird rules about
mixing typefaces.  In addition, at least with HTML, browsers don't
agree about how to render som of the combinations, and IIRC the
standard says some or all of them produce undefined results.

So whoever says we should support these cases will need to explain
how to implement this in practice.
