    limited to ordinary within-manual references.

I agree that it is bad for the reference not to have any indication it's
to another manual. The invisibility could either be turned off
completely, or another indication synthesized, such as what Luc mentioned:

    luc> Overview(top).

Do you mean Overview(make)? Overview(top) doesn't make sense to me.
Overview(make) seems fine.

Sorry, but I feel the need to make one general comment: it still seems
to me that this whole invisibility "feature" is an endless quagmire of
problems, of which this particular one is merely the latest. At the
very least, it's going to make the line breaking look wrong (the line
with the reference will be short), and there is no solution to that.
Info format simply was not designed for this sort of thing. The
XML-based Info reader that we batted around a couple months ago will be
a robust answer, if it ever gets written.

luc> In as far as I can see, no part got installed.

rms, should we look for a dedicated maintainer of the Emacs Info code?

Right now, it seems like changes are made (or not made) haphazardly. I
know that I usually find out about things at random, because people
change Emacs without thinking that standalone Info and/or the Texinfo
documentation might change. And there's no one to talk to about
proposed changes or to report bugs to or to apply patches -- people on
emacs-devel might reply, but then again they might not, depending on how
they feel, since no one is specifically responsible.

As well as juri's patch, janneke made the patch so that all the Info
address@hidden cookies get ignored, but neither he nor I knows where to apply it
so that it will get into the next release.

Thanks,
k
