        Doing it that way doesn't fail, I should have tested it :(( I do
    it running info make; after that, and using the tab, I select node
    'Rules', after that, using tab too, I select node 'Static Pattern',
    and within it, using tab again to go to the node, I select node
    'Static Usage'. Then it shows the node at 20% instead of '--Top--'.

Thanks for the recipe, but, how strange -- I still cannot reproduce it,
I end up at --Top--.

Perhaps it's something about our respective terminal types.  My $TERM is
just xterm.  Is yours something different?

    Otherwise I'll try to isolate the problem

Any debugging would be appreciated :).
