. While `makeinfo -E' does remove macro definitions for small
examples, this doesn't happen for groff.texinfo.
This is actually intentional. In fact, macro definitions should never
be removed from the -E output. Can you send me one of the small
examples where they are?
This is because of a longstanding problem in makeinfo where macro calls
are not always expanded in the -E output -- namely the argument to
@table and the like. It's nearly impossible to fix, so the best
workaround I could devise was to write the macro definitions as well,
and let TeX do those expansions. Not perfect, but better than nothing.
