that really fascinates me. I don't understand why it works.
I'll have to look at Olsak's TBN (TeXbook inside out) at home.

OK, I'm not expert on makeinfo. We are lucky that a better solution
was found.
BTW: I'm afraid it was me who changed the \def to \let, not knowing about
the subtle difference.
