On Windows, some ports of `ls'
say "Invalid argument" if you feed them with a non-matching pattern.
And fails to list the files that do match? That's the critical
question. Is this the case for djgpp, or what ports are you talking
about?
If the files that do match do get listed on stdout (regardless of what
ends up on stderr), I don't see the problem ...
